The Would-Be Brides Part 2
This powerful message challenges us to examine what kind of church we truly are in our hearts. Drawing from Isaiah 4:1-6 and Revelation 1, we're confronted with a striking image: seven women (representing churches) seeking one man's name while insisting on eating their own bread and wearing their own clothes. This isn't about a literal shortage of men—it's a prophetic picture of churches throughout history that want the name of Jesus without the relationship, the reputation without the transformation. These 'would-be brides' represent a spiritual condition where we set our own standards, create our own doctrines, and live by our own rules, only wanting Christ's name to remove our disgrace. But God reveals a remnant church—beautiful, glorious, and holy—that doesn't just bear His name but lives in His presence. This church is identified with Mount Zion and the heavenly Jerusalem, not a physical location but a spiritual reality we enter when we're born again. Over this church, God promises a cloud by day for direction and fire by night for protection, echoing the Exodus journey but pointing to our present need. We're called to be helpmates to Christ, not independent operators. The question pierces our comfortable Christianity: Are we truly submitted to His Word as our bread and His righteousness as our clothing, or are we among those who want the benefits without the relationship? This is our moment to choose which church we will be.
