A View to a Kill

This powerful message takes us beyond the familiar Palm Sunday celebration to witness the crucifixion through the eyes of an unlikely observer—a Roman centurion. Drawing from Matthew 27:45-54, we encounter a battle-hardened military commander who stood at the foot of the cross and declared, 'Truly this was the Son of God.' What makes this confession so remarkable is that it came from a Gentile warrior whose job was to ensure Jesus died, not to worship Him. Yet something about watching Jesus die—the supernatural darkness, the earthquake, the torn temple veil, and most importantly, the way Jesus loved even in His suffering—shattered this man's worldview. His acknowledgment carried immense weight because he had nothing to gain and everything to lose. The centurion's response challenges us to examine our own: When we encounter the presence of God, do we suppress our conviction or allow it to stir us to action? This message reminds us that true worship isn't about being seen by others but about being undone by Jesus. The centurion went from executing the King to praising Him, eventually becoming a monk and martyr. His transformation asks us a piercing question: What is our response to being in the presence of Almighty God?
