The Would-Be Brides
This powerful message confronts us with a sobering reality about the modern church: Are we truly seeking intimacy with Christ, or are we simply using His name to remove our guilt while living by our own rules? Drawing from Isaiah 4:1, we encounter seven women (representing churches) who approach one man (Christ) with a startling proposition: 'We will provide our own bread, wear our own clothes—just let us use your name to take away our reproach.' This prophetic picture reveals churches that want forgiveness without relationship, salvation without sanctification, and the label 'Christian' without the lifestyle that accompanies it. We're challenged to examine whether we've become the church of self—selecting only the comfortable portions of Scripture, avoiding conviction, and rejecting the full counsel of God. The message reminds us that we're living in the last days, a period that began at Pentecost and continues until Christ's return. Just as the Israelites in the wilderness had access to the same spiritual food and drink yet many displeased God, we today have access to the same gospel, yet not all are truly walking in relationship with the Bridegroom. The question pierces our hearts: Does Jesus know us intimately, or will we hear those terrifying words, 'I never knew you'? This isn't about losing salvation through works, but about whether we've ever truly entered into the covenant relationship Christ died to provide. We're called beyond mere forgiveness to intimacy, beyond having His name to bearing His fruit, and beyond self-provision to complete dependence on our heavenly Husband who desires to provide, cover, and commune with His bride.
